Three big stories today:
- Blackboard is claiming that the recent changes made by Desire 2 Learn are not enough to keep it from being in contempt of February’s copyright infringement ruling (story on Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle).
- The University of Michigan Press will no longer distribute books from the British publisher of the pro-Palestinian book that got so much attention last fall (story on Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle).
- Remember the libel lawsuit filed against Cornell for removal of a digitized newspaper article? It’s been dismissed.
Also, a fine example of why I love freedom of speech: Gore Vidal at his pissy, crotchety best.

Kirsten,
Have I told you lately how much I appreciate your comps prep posts? I especially enjoyed the Vidal interview – “crotchety” but fun.

It’s good to know someone other than me is getting something out of them! They’re probably a bit dry for those who aren’t in the midst of comps-prep, though.
Am contemplating the particular joy to be had in answering a comps question the way Vidal answered those interview questions….

Your attitude is both refreshing and encouraging. Let’s both laugh our way through the exam
